COVID-19 Contributed To Improving The Healthcare System In Ghana – Minister of Health | Health


Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, has stated that COVID-19 helped the health sector to improve upon the health system in the country.

According to him, laboratory systems were much improved and there were no PCR testing machines in the initial stages and samples were queuing at the Noguchi hospital and Kumasi.

He said that samples were flown to the regions by drones but now the health sector can boast of about 56 PCR testing centers across the regions in the country. 

He stated that COVID-19 helped the country in developing our oxygen system.

He said this in an interview with the media at the 50 years anniversary of the Ghana Association of Medical laboratory Scientists durbar and annual congress 

The theme for the 50 years anniversary was “50 years of Medical laboratory services; impacts on health delivery systems in Ghana, prospects and challenges”.

Kwaku Agyeman Manu mentioned that his ministry is working on the issue of the cost of dialysis treatment.

He disclosed he has sent the issue to cabinet and has met the kidney association of Ghana to deliberate on the dialysis treatment on whether the cost is put on the National Health insurance Scheme (NHIS) or in any other forms.

Adding to this, the President of the Ghana Association of Medical Laboratory Scientist, Dr. Abu Abudu Rahamani stated that there must be urgent need to have the medical laboratory council to work with the allied health profession council to ensure that the regulation for the medical laboratory scientists is well directed to help the monitoring system to give their best to the people of Ghana.
